Blessings in a Backpack SWFL COVID-19 Response Effort

In these uncertain times, we want to reach out to you about what we are doing here at Blessings in a Backpack to support the children in our programs. As the situation around the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, we are doing everything we can to address conditions as they arise.

Who will feed the kids while the schools are closed?

There is no one-size-fits-all solution; options will vary greatly depending on the county. Below are the efforts we are making in order to ensure children in Southwest Florida are being fed and receiving nutritious meals during this trying time.

Collier County: Blessings in a Backpack schools in Collier County are able to distribute their weekly food bags to our students at each of our schools during “grab and go” food programs. Students will be able to pick up their grab and go meals at the following schools:

  • RCMA Community School, 123 N 4th Street, Immokalee, FL 34142
  • Shadowlawn Elementary School, 2161 Shadowlawn Dr, East Naples, FL 34112

Lee County: Blessings in a Backpack students in Lee County will be able to receive “grab and go” meals beginning next week at various Boys & Girls Club sites throughout Lee County. We will be feeding an additional 1,500 children each week beginning Monday, March 23.

At Blessings in a Backpack, we mobilize communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekend to kids who might otherwise go hungry. Because of this mission, we have witnessed the power of communities when they come together toward a common goal. It is because of this experience that we are confident our community will find the strength to weather this storm together.
